Planck: Toward a New Understanding of the Universe
Planck: Toward a New Understanding of the Universe
By: Yen Chin Ong
In 1946 Gamov and his collaborators predicted that if the Big Bang model is correct, then the present universe should be filled with the microwaves originated from the high energy radiation of the hot Big Bang. In 1965 Penzias and Wilson made the accidental discovery that eventually earned them Nobel Prize in physics: they discovered the predicted cosmic microwave background radiation [CMB]. This provides a strong evidence for the Big Bang.
